New Delhi: India is set to secure almost $450 million in defence export agreements to supply friendly nations with its BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, according to news agency ANI.
The move is expected to boost the Centre’s ambitions regarding the export of defence equipment. The BrahMos missile, which India’s DRDO and Russia have jointly developed, has garnered attention in recent times from many countries. Its fame reportedly increased after India successfully used it during Operation Sindoor to destroy several Pakistani air bases and terror camps with pinpoint accuracy.
According to ANI, quoting defence sources, India would secure deals worth $450 million "in the near future", and they are going to be finalised in the coming days. There are expected to be more such deals as the BrahMos missile has captured the attention of several other countries. Recently, in the Dubai Air Show, potential buyers expressed their interest in it after the missile was displayed there.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had hailed the performance of indigenous systems, saying, “During Operation Sindoor, the world saw the capabilities of our indigenous weapons. Our Air Defence Systems, missiles, and drones have proved the strength of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, especially the Brahmos missiles.”
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has also lauded the missile by calling it the backbone of the Armed Forces and said, "Every inch of Pakistan’s territory is now within the reach of BrahMos. Operation Sindoor is proof that victory has become a habit for us, and now we must further enhance our capabilities. The operation was just a trailer. It has made Pakistan realise what might follow."
