Mohali: Days after Kabaddi player and promoter Rana Balachauria was killed during a match in Mohali, the police have taken two suspects in custody. Another person who was also believed to be involved in the crime has been encountered.

One of the accused, identified as Ashdeep, was taken in custody from Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. He had come from Moscow to carry out the murder. At the time of his arrest, Ashdeep was trying to board a flight to Muscat.

Accused Mastermind held from Amritsar

Another accused, Jugraj Singh, is believed to be the mastermind of the conspiracy. Hailing from Amritsar Rural area, he was believed to be an active member of the Doni Bal Gang. Two other accused, Karan and Aditya, also Amritsar residents, are believed to be absconding. The police have also identified the person who was involved in surveillance of the spot before killing Balachauria.

How many total accused in the case?

The Doni Bal gang is a rival gang of the Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gangs. Rana Balachauria was allegedly close to Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. As per the police, there are six accused in this case, of whom two have been arrested, and one has been killed in an encounter. A police officer was also injured. The clue to the accused, Haripinder, who was killed by the police today, was obtained based on the information provided by Ashdeep.

When was Balachauria shot dead

Balachauri aka Kanwar Digvijay Singh was shot dead while he was participating at the four-day Kabaddi in Mohali. The killers had reportedly approached him on the pretext of taking a selfie.

After committing the crime, the accused allegedly fired in the air and fled the spot, creating chaos in the stadium. A case was later filed in connection with the police's initial. The victim was admitted to a hospital, where he was declared dead after undergoing treatment for gunshots.
