Baramati: The plane carrying Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief Ajit Pawar crashed in Maharashtra’s Baramati on Wednesday. The accident took place a little after 8:30 AM this morning. There were six people on board.

Smoke engulfed the area after the deadly crash. As per reports, Ajit Pawar was on his way to a public meeting in the district. The incident took place at the time of landing. The administration and rescue teams have arrived at the scene and are assessing the situation. While there is no official confirmation on how the accident took place, low visibility seemed to be the reason behind the tragedy.

There were a total of five people on board the plane. Low visibility caused the accident. The accident was horrific, and smoke engulfed the area after the crash. Ajit Pawar departed from Mumbai for Baramati this morning on a special flight. Campaign rallies were being held in Baramati for the Zilla Parishad elections. Four Zilla Parishad rallies were held today in different Zilla Parishad constituencies in the Baramati tehsil.

Ajit Pawar was accompanied on the plane by his security personnel and assistants. Several activists and close associates of Ajit Pawar were also present at the scene.

Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar was on board the plane, along with two other people (one PSO and one attendant) and two crew members (PIC+FO). According to preliminary information, no one on board survived the crash.

Ajit Pawar's political journey

Ajit Pawar learned the basics of politics from his uncle, Sharad Pawar, who has been a prominent figure in Maharashtra politics. Ajit was the state's eighth Deputy Chief Minister and served as a minister in various governments.

Ajit Pawar, entered politics in the 1980s under the tutelage of his uncle Sharad. He achieved his first electoral success in 1991 when he won the Baramati Lok Sabha seat. However, he resigned shortly thereafter to make way for his uncle. Sharad then won the by-election and became Defense Minister in the then central government of P.V. Narasimha Rao.

In recent years, he parted ways with his uncle and formed his own party. Ajit Pawar then joined the BJP-lead alliance to form the government in the state.  Recently, his party joined hands with NCP (SCP)  to contest Pune civic polls.
