Railways to install CCTV cameras in 1800 coaches in trains to increase passenger safety

New Delhi: The North Central Railway (NCR) has come up with a new initiative to increase the safety of passengers. In the latest announcement, it has revealed its plans to install CCTV cameras in all passenger coaches across its Prayagraj, Agra, and Jhansi divisions, which will enhance the safety of those travelling by trains.

Thanks to the surveillance project, there will be monitoring on 895 modern Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches and 887 Integral Coach Factory (ICF) coaches. Also, as per a report by the Times of India, there will be AI-enabled cameras in the Prayagraj Express and Shramshakti Express for advanced tracking.

According to an ANI report, in the first phase of the project, the trains where CCTV cameras will be installed include Kalindi Express, Prayagraj-Dr Ambedkar Nagar Express, Subedarganj-Dehradun Express, Prayagraj-Lalgarh Express, Subedarganj-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Jammu Mail, and Subedarganj-Meerut City Sangam Express.

How many cameras will be there?

In every AC coach, there will be four cameras. In general compartments, SLR coaches, and pantry cars, there will be six cameras respectively. The cameras will record clear footage even in low-light conditions and at speeds of more than 100 kmph. There will be cameras at the entry points and corridors. The trains will be monitored by people at the NCR headquarters and at the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) offices in Prayagraj, Agra, and Jhansi. There can be cameras in locomotive cabins as well. This move will massively increase passenger safety and security on trains.

Meanwhile, keeping the festive rush in mind, the Railway Ministry recently announced a Round Trip Package which aims to make train ticket booking hassle free. Also, it will redistribute the peak traffic during festive seasons and ensure the onward and return journey of trains, including special trains. Only those passengers who choose their return journey during the prescribed period can avail of this facility.
