New Delhi: The Centre reportedly announced on Tuesday that the new complex housing the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) being built under the Central Vista Project will be named Seva Teerth.
According to reports, the new PMO will be housed in “Sewa Tirath-1,” one of three newly constructed buildings in the Executive Enclave-I, located next to Vayu Bhawan. The two other buildings, Sewa Tirath-2 and Sewa Tirath-3 will have the Cabinet Secretariat and the National Security Advisor’s Office.
The process of shifting the address is already going on. On October 14, Cabinet Secretary TV Somanathan held a high-level meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff and the three service chiefs inside Sewa Teerth-2.
Notably, Raj Bhavans India are being renamed to Lok Bhavan. Earlier, Delhi's Rajpath was renamed Kartavya Path and in 2016, the Prime Minister’s official residence was renamed Lok Kalyan Marg. A name that conveys welfare, not exclusivity. A reminder of the work that lies ahead for every elected government.
The new complex housing the PMO is called Seva Teerth, a workplace which has been designed to reflect the spirit of service and where national priorities take shape. The name of the Central Secretariat is Kartavya Bhavan. A vast administrative hub built around the idea that public service is a commitment.
Kartavya Bhavan brings together numerous key ministries, including Home Affairs, External Affairs, Rural Development, MSME, and Petroleum, under a single, highly sustainable roof. This consolidation is intended to foster better collaboration and efficiency among government departments.
Since many of the existing government buildings were built just after Indian independence, their designs have become inadequate for a modern government's needs. To solve several problems including overcrowding, outdated technology, and a lack of synchronisation between different buildings which are hindering effective governance, Kartavya Bhavan has been built with a modern, energy-efficient design, incorporating features such as double-glazed windows and water-saving technology.
