New Delhi: In a major success for Indian security forces in their fight against terrorism, Hashim Musa, the mastermind behind the deadly Pahalgam attack, was gunned down in an encounter near Dachigam on the outskirts of Srinagar on Monday.
Musa, also known as Suleiman, was a former Pakistani Army Special Forces operative and is believed to have orchestrated the brutal attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, where at least 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed when terrorists opened fire on them.
Indian Army Special Forces eliminated Musa during the high-stakes operation launched in the Mulnar area of Harwan. The operation, codenamed Operation Mahadev, began following specific intelligence inputs.
"Three terrorist have been neutralised in an intense firefight. Operation Continues," the X post by Chinar Corps read.
According to reports, the operation is a joint effort involving the Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The encounter is still underway, with two additional terrorists believed to be injured. All three slain militants are reported to be Pakistani nationals. Security forces recovered the bodies, along with a cache of weapons including a US-made carbine, an AK-47, 17 rifle grenades, and other war-like stores.
Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, Army Commander Northern Command, commended the Chinar Corps for their swift and precise execution in neutralising the terrorists during Operation Mahadev in the Lidwas area.
