Tamil superstar and politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has escalated its demand for justice in the Karur stampede tragedy by petitioning the Supreme Court. The party has challenged the Madras High Court’s recent order that established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by an Inspector General to probe the incident.
TVK argues that the current SIT is compromised, potentially influenced by the DMK government, and lacks the necessary independence to conduct a fair inquiry. Consequently, the party is seeking a Supreme Court-monitored independent investigation to ensure complete transparency and accountability in determining the cause of the deaths of 33 victims.
Meanwhile, Vijay has reportedly video-called and personally spoken to the families of the victims. He intends to visit Karur and is currently seeking permission from the Director General of Police (DGP) for the visit. This move comes amidst earlier backlash Vijay faced for leaving Karur swiftly after the stampede. TVK aims for a thorough and impartial resolution to the high-stakes legal and political dispute.
