New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to arrive in India on December 4 for a two-day State visit during the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit. Putin's agenda in India is expected to be packed and might cover crucial areas spanning defence hardware, energy cooperation, trade in national currencies, and advanced nuclear projects.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told news agency ANI that the Indo-Russian partnership is deeply rooted in "a deep historic background of mutual understanding" and a shared vision of global affairs grounded in international law, setting a strong rhetorical foundation for the upcoming talks. Putin's visit to India amid Russia's war with Ukraine and tussle with Europe is extremely crucial.
What would be the key moments of Putin's visit?
Putin will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 5 and also hold an informal one-on-one meeting on December 4. During the visit, Russia plans to sign 10 intergovernmental documents and more than 15 commercial agreements.
Seven ministers will accompany Putin, including Defence Minister Belousov, Finance Minister Siluanov, and Central Bank Governor Nabiullina. The delegation will also include Igor Sechin, the Russian entrepreneur who is considered a close ally and 'de facto deputy' of Putin, along with Margarita Simonyan, the editor-in-chief of the Russian state-controlled broadcaster RT, and the state-owned media group Rossiya Segodnya. Putin and Simonyan will take part in the launch ceremony of the RT India television channel.
