SIR giving BJP advantage while dogs are getting voter ID cards in Bihar: TMCs Abhishek Banerjee calls saffron partys politics shameless
TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee strongly criticised the BJP and the Election Commission. He condemned the harassment of Bengali migrant workers in BJP-ruled states, alleging they are targeted for speaking Bengali.
Kolkata: TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee lashed out at the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters' list ahead of the Assembly elections in the state. Also, he repeatedly criticised the Centre over the Pahalgam terror attack. At the same time, he also spoke out about the harassment of Bengali migrant workers in other states.
The incidents of Bengali migrant workers being harassed in one state after another are constantly increasing, and they are being detained on suspicion of being 'Bangladeshi' since they are speaking in Bengali. Recently, the TMC has been extremely vocal about what it terms as an attack on the Bengali identity.
On this day, Abhishek Banerjee said, "Whenever we get a chance in Parliament, we will speak in Bengali. Today, there is a discussion on Operation Sindoor, in which we will also speak in Bengali. Our migrant workers are being harassed in the states ruled by the BJP's double-engine governments in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Odisha."
Alleging bias against the Election Commission, Abhishek said, "Voters are being intimidated in the name of SIR. The rights of the common man are being taken away. Meanwhile, voter ID cards are being made in the name of dogs. All this is done to allow a party; it is shameful. In the last election, I saw how voters were killed in broad daylight in Shitalkuchi. I saw this behaviour of the Election Commission in 2024 as well. Flattery and slavery are taking place."
He attacked the BJP and said, "We have no problem whenever there is an election, but the BJP's shameless politics cannot be accepted. The BJP does not know the history of Bengal. The land that gave four Nobel laureates, Rabindranath Tagore, Mother Teresa, Abhijit Banerjee, and Amartya Sen.. The BJP's All-India President does not know the birthplace of Rabindranath Tagore. BJP leaders, under the leadership of Amit Shah, broke the statue of Vidyasagar. Those who are oppressing the people of Bengal will get the same lessons they got in 2021 and 2024 in 2026. The people of Bengal will not betray us."
The TMC MP gave a clarion call, "We can do what is happening in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, but that is not our lesson. There are many non-Bengalis living in Bengal, why are you doing politics of division? If we had wanted to do politics of division, we could have stopped work in Jangalmahal, where the BJP had done well. We didn't do that. We did the same work everywhere."
Abhishek added, "This is what politics should be. This should be the policy of the country's government. This is unfortunate. We will speak out. If the BJP thinks that they will teach the people of Bengal a lesson by insulting them, then the BJP should be prepared for a tougher lesson."
