Here are a few delightful traditional dishes to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with your loved ones.

1. Jowar millet puran poli

You can always improvise any recipe to give it a unique taste. The same can be done with puran poli by introducing millet. This dish is full of nutrition and is ideal for feasting.

Ingredients

1 cup jowar

1 cup Bengal gram

1 cup date syrup

1/4 cup flaxseed powder

1/2 cup besan flour

1/2 cup peanuts

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

4 cups water

1/4 tsp cardamom powder

Cooking method

Blend soaked Bengal gram, add cardamom powder and date syrup. Put aside the stuffing. Make smooth peanut butter and boil water in the meantime.

Add jowar and besan flour, peanut butter, flaxseed and turmeric powder to the boiling water.

Knead it into a smooth dough and make tiny balls without any breaks in it.

Make the rotis and stuff the puran poli filling in the centre, and cover with another roti.

Roll the roti again and place it on a hot tawa. Cook both sides and serve with a fresh scoop of almond butter for taste.

2. Bhoplayache gharge

If you love a bit of spice and crispiness, these sweet pumpkin puris are best for you. Made with grated pumpkin and jaggery, the dish is relished during the festival.

Ingredients

3 cups finely grated red pumpkin

2 cups whole wheat flour

1 ½ cups finely chopped jaggery

¼ cup semolina

1/3 cup grated coconut

Oil for deep-frying

Cooking method

Add jaggery and pumpkin to a kadhai. Cook on low flame and stir frequently until the pumpkin is soft.

Now, add coconut and semolina to the mixture.

Allow it to cool completely and let the semolina absorb the excess moisture.

Add a tbsp of oil to the dough and blend well.

Add flour into the mixture and knead it to make non-sticky dough. Let the dough rest for some time, and in the meantime, heat oil for deep-frying.

Make a ball from the dough and place it on the baking paper. Press and flatten the dough with oiled fingers and shape it with your fingertips.

Carefully transfer the shaped ghagre into the hot oil and fry each side for about 20-30 seconds. Once done, add a spoonful of ghee for taste.

3. Uddina kadubu

Traditionally prepared as an offering to Lord Ganesha, this South Indian style steamed dumpling is served with a dollop of ghee for a delightful taste on the platter.

Ingredients

¾ cup ragi flour

¾ cup water

¼ tsp salt

½ cup urad dal

¼ cup dill leaves

¼ cup fresh coconut

2 tbsp chana dal

½ tsp black pepper

2 crushed green chillies

Cooking method

Soak the urad and chana dal in separate bowls for 4 to 5 hours. Drain the excess water and make a smooth, thick paste.

Now, add the freshly grated coconut to the paste and mix evenly. Add chana dal, dill leaves, black pepper and chopped green chillies along with salt into the bowl and blend everything well.

Add water to a pan and stir the salt in it. Bring the water to a boil and add ragi flour to the mixture. Stir until the dough comes together.

Once the dough is ready, transfer it to a plate and knead for 2-3 minutes.

Divide the balls into equal portions and roll them into smooth balls.

Use a roti press to roll out the dough balls, and once it is rolled properly, add a tbsp of filling in the middle. Cover it to form a half-moon-shaped kadubus.

Place the kadubus on a plate in a single layer. Steam for about 12-15 minutes. Serve it with coconut chutney.

With these mouth-watering ethnic dishes, your Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 celebration will be more enjoyable along with your loved ones!
