New Delhi: In India, as people are immersed in celebrating Navratri 2025 from September 22, they are also following age-old customs and observing fast. Among many Navratri rituals, Hindu people celebrate Kanjak or Kanya Puja when they worship young girls or kanyas between the ages of 2 to 10. While observing this custom, they honour the divine feminine energy to please Goddess Durga and gain blessings for prosperity and well-being. As girls are considered the living embodiment of the deity, the girls are washed, adorned with a tilak, offered sacred food, and gifted beautiful things.
During Kanjak Puja, devotees offer suji halwa, a dessert made of semolina, because it symbolises purity, nourishment, and devotion, providing a balanced and sattvik meal for the young girls worshipped as divine manifestations. The sweetness of the halwa represents the blessings of pure intentions, while its rich ingredients like semolina and ghee also offer health benefits, helping to balance the digestive system after fasting and providing energy to the children. So, read further for suji ka halwa’s recipe.
