Navratri fasting recipes
Here are the recipes of two millet dishes to keep you healthy and satisfied during Navratri 2025 fasting.
Millet dosa ingredients
- 1 cup millet dosa mix
- Water as needed
- 1 tsp ghee or oil
Cooking method
1. Blend the millet dosa mix with water in a bowl. Whisk it properly to ensure there are no lumps, creating a smooth batter.
2. Put a non-stick pan on medium heat. Once hot, lightly grease the surface with ghee or oil.
3. Now, pour a ladleful of batter onto the hot pan. Spread it thinly in circular motion using the back of the ladle.
4. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the edges lift slightly, then flip the dosa and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
5. If the dosa turns crispy and golden brown, remove it from the pan. Serve hot with chutney appropriate for fasting.
Barnyard millet pudding ingredients
- 1 cup barnyard millet
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup jaggery powder
- 1/4 cup chopped almonds
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
- A pinch of saffron strands
Cooking method
1. Rinse barnyard millet under cold water. Soak the millet in water for 30 minutes to enhance its texture.
2. Put the soaked millet and 2 cups of milk in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the millet is tender and the mixture thickens.
3. Mix half a cup of jaggery powder as per the taste and let it melt completely, creating a sweet, aromatic blend.
4. Mix in 1/4 cup of chopped almonds and 1/4 cup of raisins for a delightful crunch and chewy texture.
5. Add 1 teaspoon of cardamom powder for a depth of flavour. Garnish with a pinch of saffron strands, infusing a subtle richness to the pudding.
6. Let the pudding simmer for another 5-7 minutes until it reaches your desired consistency. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before serving.
