Star fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar got a 156 per cent pay rise in the IPL 2025 auction. He was bought by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for Rs 10.75 crore. The five-time champions Mumbai Indians opened the bid for India's swing king and Lucknow SuperGiants (LSG) also joined the race.
Mumbai dropped out of the race after the bidding crossed the Rs 10cr mark with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) emerging as the new contender. With a limited-price purse with LSG, RCB finally secured his services for INR 10.75 Crore for the upcoming IPL season.
Sunrisers Hyderabad released Bhuvneshwar ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction and he registered himself for a base price of INR 2 Crore, following which the organising committee listed him in the Capped fast bowlers 2 list. The 34-year-old is known for swinging the ball both ways in the powerplay and using different variations in the middle and death overs.
Bhuvneshwar began his IPL journey with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after impressive performances in the Ranji 2008/09 season but he didn’t play a single game for the franchise. He made his IPL debut in 2011 with Pune Warriors India and played three seasons with them, taking 24 wickets.
In 2014, he joined Sunrisers Hyderabad and became one of their most crucial players. His best performances came in 2016 and 2017 when he won the Purple Cap in two consecutive seasons. The Indian pacer played a crucial role in Sunrisers Hyderabad's title-winning campaign in 2016. He led the franchise’s bowling attack and emerged as the Purple Cap holder (highest wicket-taker in a season) with 23 wickets in the 2016 season. He retained the purple cap in the following season by taking 26 wickets.
He made his international debut for India at the end of 2012 in the T20I and ODI series against Pakistan. Bhuvneshwar made his Test debut in 2013 and was part of the Indian team which won the 2013 Champions Trophy against England. He played 229 international matches and picked up 294 wickets. Bhuvneshwar participated in 21 Test matches and picked up 63 wickets. He played 121 ODI matches and took 141 wickets and in T20Is, he took 90 wickets in 87 matches.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar began his IPL career with RCB for Rs 6 lakhs. In 2011, Pune Warriorz India signed him but the franchise was dissolved in 2013. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bought him for Rs 4.25 crores, marking the start of a long-standing partnership. The franchise retained him in 2018 for INR 8.5 crores. In 2022, SRH re-signed him once again, securing his services for Rs 4.5 crores.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar's year-wise auction price
In 2009, Bhuvneshwar was signed by RCB for Rs 6 lakhs but he didn't play any match for the franchise. After that, Pune Warriors signed him in 2011. Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him for Rs 4.25 crores in the IPL 2014 auction. The Hyderabad-based franchise bought him back from Rs. 8.5 crores in the 2018 auction. They again secured his services in the 2022 IPL auction for Rs 4.20 crores. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) paid a big price for the star pacer and bought him for Rs. 10.75 crore.
