CSK star confirms exit ahead of IPL retention deadline, thanks fans in farewell post
A Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star confirmed his exit from the franchise with a farewell post on social media ahead of IPL 2026 retention deadline.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Devon Conway on Friday confirmed his release from the franchise ahead of the IPL 2026 retention deadline. Conway took to social media to share a farewell post, confirming his exit from the franchise. The left-hand opener played a key role in CSK's title triumph in IPL 2023.
Conway's release comes after CSK's dismal campaign in IPL 2025, where they failed to qualify for the playoffs and finished at the bottom of the points table. The New Zealand batter was bought back by CSK in the IPL 2025 mega auction last year after two successful seasons with the franchise.
Conway made his debut for CSK in IPL 2022 and quickly established himself as one of the key players in the side. He scored 252 runs in 7 matches in his first season and followed it up with a brilliant campaign in IPL 2023 to play a crucial role in helping CSK win their fifth title.
Conway finished the season with an impressive 672 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 139.71 to power CSK to the title. He missed the 2024 season due to an injury and was bought back by CSK ahead of IPL 2025. However, Conway's returns in IPL 2025 were far from impressive as the opener managed only 156 runs in six matches before being dropped.
Conway expressed his gratitude to CSK supporters in what seemed to be a farewell post after being released by the franchise. "Thank you to all loyal fans of CSK for amazing 3 years support," the New Zealand batter wrote on X, confirming his exit.
CSK looking to revamp squad ahead of IPL 2026
Conway's release was on the expected lines after CSK's disappointing show in IPL 2025. The five-time champions have made some bold calls ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, where they are expected to revamp their squad in order to strengthen their chances ahead of a crucial season. CSK are expected to release a host of other players who failed to impress last season.
The likes of Rahul Tripathi, Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Jamie Overton and Rachin Ravindra are expected to be CSK's likely releases ahead of the auction. With R Ashwin already retired, CSK are expected to head into the auction with a strong purse and will be hoping to bolster their all-rounders department.
