New Delhi: Despite India's embarrassing series loss against South Africa on Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in no mood for any action against head coach Gautam Gambhir. A report in IndianExpress mentions that instead of taking any action against Gambhir, the Indian cricket board is panning to hold discussions with the selectors and team management in the coming days.

It is further being learnt that at the meeting, there will not be any significant actions taken as they are set to go further with the same set of players whom they have been backing for a while now. It may be noticed that Gambhir's contract as the head coach of the Indian national team is till 2027 and with the ODI World also being around the same time, Gambhir will keep his position as the coach across all the formats.

Devajit Saikia issues statement

In the midst of everything, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed to TOI that the Indian cricket board is not planning any changes.

'BCCI doesn’t take knee-jerk reactions. We are going on as per our long-term plan. Winning or losing is a part of the game. We don’t make changes every now and then. If any change is required, we take a call at the end of that particular period,' Saikia told TOI.

India in red-ball under Gambhir

India had a fine series against England and also beat West Indies at home a month earlier but their defeat against the Proteas was their third in a space of one year after Gambhir took charge as the head coach. In a span of last one year, India lost a Test series against New Zealand and South Africa at home and away against Australia.

In between the losses suffered, they drew the Test series in England and also won the Champions Trophy and Asia Cup. While their performance in the white-ball cricket has been up to the mark, India have slid in the red-ball format big time.

Meanwhile, after losing the first Test match of the series at the Eden Gardens last week, the Indian team was expected to bounce back in the second and final game but they suffered their heaviest defeat in Test history losing to the Proteas by a big margin of 408 runs.
