India vs Australia ODI series: Full schedule, squads, venues, live streaming and all you need to know
Shubman Gill-led India will lock horns with Australia in a three-match ODI series that gets underway on October 19. Here is all you need to know about the series.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be making their much-awaited comeback when India take on Australia in a three-match ODI series starting Sunday, October 19. Both Kohli and Rohit have retired from Tests and T20Is and only play ODIs for India. The senior duo were last seen in action together for India in the Champions Trophy 2025 earlier this year.
The batting stalwarts played a key role in helping India clinch the Champions Trophy 2025 title and will be hoping to make a strong return in the Australia series. India will play three ODIs, followed by a five-match T20I series against Australia, which gets underway on October 29. The first ODI will be played at the Perth Stadium in Perth on Sunday.
Shubman Gill will be leading India in the ODI series after taking over the captaincy baton from Rohit. The selectors and the team management decided to remove Rohit from captaincy and hand over the reins to Gill ahead of the all-important series to give the young skipper enough time to prepare for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
However, Rohit and Kohli have been kept in the squad to help Gill with leadership by sharing their experiences on the field. While all eyes will be on the return of the two batting stalwarts, Gill will be hoping to get off to a winning start in his first major assignment as India's ODI captain. Gill, who replaced Rohit as Test skipper earlier this year, led India to a 2-2 draw in the England series.
India have named a strong squad for the ODI series against Australia. Gill is expected to open alongside Rohit, with Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer batting at no.3 and 4. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been kept in the squad as a back-up opener. Nitish Reddy is the only pace all-rounder in the side, while Axar Patel and Washington Sundar are the two spin all-rounders.
In Jasprit Bumrah's absence, Mohammed Siraj will lead the pace attack. India have a strong pace unit consisting of Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna. Kuldeep Yadav is the lone specialist spinner in the side, while KL Rahul is likely to be the first-choice wicket-keeper batter.
