Mohammed Siraj named ICC Player of the Month following Oval Test heroics
Mohammed Siraj won the ICC Player of the Month award for the first time in his career following his Oval Test heroics against England.
New Delhi: Mohammed Siraj has won the ICC Player of the Month for August 2025 for his irrepressible match-winning spell against England in the fifth Test at the Oval.
The Indian pacer played only one Test match in August. His lethal spell in the Oval game, where he scalped nine wickets at an average of 21.11, helped India pull off a historic victory from a difficult situation to end the well-fought Test series at 2-2.
Siraj's heroics in the Oval Test were lauded by the cricketing fraternity, as he bowled 46 overs in the match. The most interesting part was that Siraj played all five Test matches and was the only pacer to feature in all matches.
Apart from Siraj, New Zealand's Matt Henry and West Indian Jayden Seales were also nominated by the ICC for the award.
"It is a special honour to be named ICC Player of the Month," Siraj said.
"The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy was a memorable series, and it was one of the most intense contests I have been part of. This award belongs as much to my teammates and the support staff as it does to me, because their constant encouragement and belief kept me going. I will continue to work hard and give my best every time I wear the India jersey." Siraj added.
This was the first time Siraj won the award and became the ninth Indian to feature in the award list after Rishabh Pant, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Jasprit Bumrah.
Gill leads the chart, having won the ICC Player of the Month award four times, while Bumrah and Iyer won it twice. In 2025, out of eight months, Indian players won the prestigious award on four instances, including Gill's twin wins in February and July and Iyer in March.
Orla Prendergast wins women's ICC Player of the Month.
Ireland's all-rounder Orla Prendergast won the ICC Player of the Month for August for her T20I performances. The Irish player led her side to a memorable 2-1 victory against Pakistan, where she was the leading run-scorer in the series with 144 runs and also picked up four wickets as well.
In the Women's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier, Orla managed to score 244 runs and finished the month with seven wickets. Ireland swept the qualifiers by winning all games.
