No communication: MCA official denies reports of Rohit Sharma confirming availability for Vijay Hazare Trophy

A Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) official has revealed that there has been no communication from Rohit Sharma regarding his availability for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Former India captain Rohit Sharma has not confirmed his availability for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, as per a Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) official. On Wednesday, reports claimed that Rohit has agreed to play for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and has confirmed his availability to the MCA.

Having retired from Tests and T20Is, both Rohit and Virat Kohli currently represent India only in ODIs and have reportedly been asked by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian team management to take part in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Both Rohit and Kohli have been asked to participate in the tournament to remain in contention for India in ODIs. Reports claimed that Rohit gave his nod to the MCA after agreeing to turn up for Mumbai in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, which is set to be played from December 25 to January 18. However, an MCA official denied the reports.

A senior MCA official confirmed to news agency PTI that there has been no such communication from Rohit's side. "There has been no communication as far as I am aware," the official told PTI.

It remains to be seen if the former India captain, who has been training in Mumbai for the upcoming ODI series between India and South Africa, will take part in the Vijay Hazare Trophy next month.

Rohit recently made his international comeback for India after seven months alongside Kohli in the ODI series against Australia last month. The Hitman got off to a shaky start, but ended up finishing as the highest run-getter in the series with 202 runs to bag the Player of the Series award.

Rohit slammed an unbeaten 121 in the final third ODI and was involved in a match-winning partnership with Kohli. Despite Rohit's heroics, India lost the three-match ODI series 2-1 against the hosts. The Hitman will look to continue his fine form with the bat in the upcoming three-match ODI series against the Proteas.

Rohit was recently seen training for the upcoming series at the MCA's BKC facility in Mumbai. The former India captain also watched Mumbai's match against Himachal Pradesh. Both Rohit and Kohli will be seen in action for India next in the ODI series against South Africa, which gets underway on November 30.
