New Delhi: Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed his maiden ODI century while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli notched up brilliant half-centuries to power India to a massive 9-wicket victory over South Africa in the third and final ODI of the series in Visakhapatnam.
By virtue of the brilliant victory attained in just 39.5 overs chasing 271 runs, India won the series 2-1, bagging their 10th white-ball series win at home since the 2019 ODI World Cup. Jaiswal and Rohit began the proceedings on a fiery note as the duo stitched a big 155-run stand for the opening wicket which laid the perfect base for the hosts with the latter also becoming the fourth player to complete 20000 international runs.
After Rohit was dismissed by Keshav Maharaj for 75 runs which included seven boundaries and three massive sixes, Kohli came into the picture continuing his brilliant run in the series decider as he scored 65 of just 45 balls to help India cross the finish line convincingly.
Kohli becomes highest run-scorer in series
Enroute his brilliant half-century, the right-handed batter smashed six boundaries and three maximums as he seemed to be in a fierce mood smashing the South Africa bowlers all across the field. The Delhi batter ended up as the highest run-getter in the three-match ODI series as he had smashed two centuries in the opening two ODIs. He was named the Player of the Series after scoring 302 runs across three matches.
Kuldeep, Prasidh shine with the ball
Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav and pacer Prasidh Krishna shined with the ball picking four wickets each to bundle out South Africa to moderate total of 270 runs in 47.5 overs. Kuldeep also became the highest wicket-taker in the series claiming nine wickets. Arshdeep Singh and Ravindra Jadeja also claimed a wicket each.
For South Africa, Quinton de Kock slammed a century, his 23rd in the format while skipper Temba Bavuma scored 48 runs as the other batters failed to navigate through the Indian bowling line-up. The bowlers for the visitors failed in the series decider as they could not contain the dangerous Indian batters.
