Vaishnavi Sharma replaces injured G Kamalini in Mumbai squad for remainder of WPL

New Delhi: Indian spinner Vaishnavi Sharma, on Tuesday, replaced injured wicketkeeper-batter G Kamalini in the Mumbai Indians' squad for the remainder of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026. This development came after Kamalini picked up an unspecified injury during the ongoing women's league and was subsequently ruled out of the entire tournament.

Spinner Vaishnavi will join the franchise for Rs 30 lakh, the WPL confirmed in a release on January 20. Meanwhile, the 17-year-old Kamalini opened for the Indians in four out of five matches she played in the ongoing edition of the league but could not impress managing just 75 runs at a strike rate of 97.40, before picking up an injury.

Vaishnavi, who was a member of India's under-19 World Cup winning squad 2025, made her international debut against Sri Lanka last month in a five-match T20I series which India comfortably won 5-0. The 20-year-old cricketer created a good impressions with her perfect left-arm spin all through the series, claiming five wickets. She has also earned her maiden ODI call-up ahead of the forthcoming Australia tour.

MI placed on second spot

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians are currently placed on the second position on the WPL points table with two wins from five matches, having four points to their name. The Mumbai side began their campaign with a three-wicket defeat against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) with the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side bouncing back with successive victories against the Delhi Capitals and the Gujarat Giants.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have already qualified further with five out of five victories in their campaign and lead the charts at present.

The Capitals are placed at the bottom of the table with just a lone victory in their campaign till now while UP and Gujarat occupy then third and the fourth spot on the table.
