Vijay Hazare Trophy: Virat Kohli sizzles on domestic return with power-packed ton
Virat Kohli smashed a blistering century on his domestic cricket return in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 on Wednesday.
New Delhi: Virat Kohli sizzled on his return to domestic cricket on Wednesday with a power-packed century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. Participating in the premier domestic competition after a huge gap of 15 long years, Kohli entertained the spectators with a 83-ball hundred in Bengaluru, marking his 5th century in the VHT.
During the match between Delhi and Andhra Pradesh, Kohli showcased his prowess in front of an exciting crowd with fantastic stroke play at the age of 37. This the run-machine's 58th List A hundred as he continued his brilliant form and consistency in the 50-over format. Chasing 299 runs, Kohli's hundred helped his side crossed the 200-run mark with more than 20 overs to spare.
After Andhra were put into bat first, they scored 298 for 8 in the stipulated 50 overs giving a target of 299 runs for Delhi to chase. While it was a competitive score put on the board by the team but Kohli's flawless batting made the target look very easy. The veteran Indian cricketer achieved the landmark of completing 16000 runs in List A cricket after scoring his 1st run during the chase.
Kohli surpasses Tendulkar
By virtue of this record, he joined legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar in the elite list of players to have scored more than 16000 List A runs and also became only the second Indian player after the Mumbai legend. Kohli surpassed Tendulkar to become the fastest player to 16000 run in the men's List A cricket achieving the milestone in his 330th innings.
Tendulkar had achieved the landmark in his 391st List A innings. Kohli, is thus, the only player in the history of List A cricket to become the fastest to score 10 thousand, 11 thousand, 12 thousand, 13 thousand, 1r4 thousand, 15 thousand, and now 16 thousand runs.
Kohli ended up scoring 131 runs off 101 deliveries which included 14 boundaries and 3 massive sixes.
