New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh has moved a major step ahead in its pitch to become a national hub for artificial intelligence infrastructure. The state government has approved the transfer of land to Adani Infra (India) Pvt Ltd for a large scale AI data centre project backed by Google’s Raiden Infotech India. I was talking to a friend who grew up in Vizag and he joked that the city is suddenly becoming a technology hotspot that he barely recognises anymore.
The project is expected to bring huge investments over the next few years, with both the government and industry players calling it one of the largest AI infrastructure initiatives in India till date.
According to the state government order dated 2 December 2025, Andhra Pradesh has allotted 480 acres of land in Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli districts to Adani Infra (India) Pvt Ltd. The company was named a “notified partner” of Raiden Infotech India Pvt Ltd, a Google entity working with Adani and Bharti Airtel for the data centre rollout.
“The Government, after careful examination of the proposal, and as per the approval accorded by the council of ministers in its meeting dated 28/11/2025 hereby accords permission for the transfer of 480 acres of land in Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli districts to M/s Adani Infra (India) Private Limited,” the order said.
The data centre campus will have a total capacity of 1 GW. Government officials said this is equivalent to nearly 50 per cent of Mumbai’s annual electricity consumption once operations reach full load. It is rare to see such a massive comparison and it shows how energy hungry AI computing continues to be.
Before the land transfer, Raiden informed the Andhra government about its notified partners. The names included
• Adani Infra (India) Pvt Ltd
• AdaniConneX India Pvt Ltd
• Adani Power India Pvt Ltd
• Bharti Airtel Ltd
• Nxtra Data Ltd
• Nxtra Vizag Limited
These partners are expected to work together on different parts of the infrastructure design. The project will follow the same standards used for “Google services like Search, YouTube and Workspace” according to the government order.
Raiden is planning the development in phases with a cumulative investment of over Rs 87,500 crore in the state. The project will receive Rs 22,000 crore in incentives over a period of time under the policies approved earlier.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu recently claimed that Google had earlier announced an investment of USD 10 billion. He said this has now increased to USD 15 billion after further discussions. At current exchange values, 1 USD equals around Rs 87, so the figure indicates a major bet on Andhra’s growth.
Visakhapatnam has been trying to position itself as a digital business hub for a while, and this move strengthens that attempt. Even though I have never visited the port city, almost everyone I know keeps calling Vizag a future technology capital in the making.
The state has emphasised that notified partners will be eligible to use the incentives promised earlier for the benefit of this data centre project. The government expects major job creation and global companies setting up shop around the region.
