New Delhi: Battlefield 6 has finally confirmed what fans had been whispering about for months. A new battle royale mode is coming, and it is shaping up to look very different from what we have seen in Fortnite or Call of Duty: Warzone. EA revealed the mode through its Battlefield Labs blog, where it also confirmed that playtests kick off this week. That means some players will get to try it out ahead of the full launch in October.

As someone who still remembers Firestorm in Battlefield V, this announcement feels like deja vu. But the developers are stressing that this new version is being built with Battlefield’s DNA at the core. From classes and squadplay to large-scale destruction and vehicles, everything that makes Battlefield, well, Battlefield, is being carried into the battle royale format.

The deadliest ring in a battle royale

The biggest twist is the ring mechanic. According to the developers, Battlefield 6 will have “the most dangerous ring in gaming.” Unlike other games where you can duck in and out of the shrinking circle or heal through it, here it’s instant death. “There’s no jumping in and out of it, no using it for cover, no walking through it – if you get caught in it, you are done,” the update states.

That alone will change how matches play out. The shrinking play area will force squads into brutal encounters, with firefights becoming more intense as the fire closes in. I can already imagine the chaos when squads are trying to push into the same building while the deadly ring creeps right behind them.

Battlefield 6 Battle Royale: Classes, squads, and destruction

Battlefield 6’s battle royale will feature 100 players, split into 25 squads of four. Classes return here, and you’ll need to pick one before the match begins. You cannot switch mid-match, but you can level up during play to unlock traits that boost your class. For example, the Assault class can get faster at equipping armor plates, which can be a lifesaver in the middle of a gunfight.

Destruction is also being hyped up. The update made it clear: “destruction will be everywhere in this mode.” That means blowing holes in walls, collapsing cover, or even taking down buildings to change the fight in your favor. I still remember the first time I dropped a whole skyscraper in Battlefield 4, and seeing that kind of chaos in battle royale will be something else.

Vehicles will be scattered across the map too. From basic transport to unlockable armored beasts, players will have more options to move and fight. This is something unique compared to other BR titles where vehicles are often just about getting from point A to B.

Battlefield 6 Battle Royale: Missions and loot system

The loot system looks more layered than usual. Players will hunt for weapons, gadgets, and strike packages across five rarity tiers. Missions scattered across the map add extra spice. Completing them can earn squads valuable rewards like a vehicle key, redeploy unit, or weapons cache. But taking them on means risk, since the rewards are dropped in, drawing attention from other squads.

This risk-reward element feels like it could shift the pace of matches. Imagine you’re low on gear, see a mission for a high-value cache, and have to decide whether it’s worth the firefight that will almost certainly follow.

Battlefield 6 Battle Royale: Testing and launch

For now, the mode is being tested in Battlefield Labs. EA says the data and feedback from these tests will help fine-tune the experience before launch. Matches during testing will stick to the 100-player, 25-squad format, but the developers hinted that things could change based on how players respond.

Battlefield 6 is set to launch on October 10, 2025. Fans won’t have to wait that long to get a taste though. With tests starting this week, we should know soon how “a battle royale done the Battlefield way” actually feels when boots hit the ground.
