Citroën Basalt X range teased with new features, pre-booking starts
Citroën India has opened pre-bookings for its upcoming Basalt X range at ₹11,000. The SUV will feature refreshed interiors and new features, as part of the brand's strategy to strengthen its position in the competitive compact SUV segment.
New Delhi: Citroën India has officially opened pre-bookings for its upcoming Basalt X range, giving customers a first chance to secure the compact SUV ahead of its launch. Bookings can be made at dealerships and on the company’s India website for a token amount of ₹11,000.
The Basalt X is the next step in the brand’s India plan, with a focus on refreshed interiors and feature updates teased in the first set of images. The carmaker is preparing to strengthen its line-up in the competitive sub-compact SUV segment under its "Citroën 2.0 - Shift Into the New” strategy.
Pre-bookings now live
The Basalt X range has been positioned as a more feature-packed version of the standard Basalt. Customers can place their pre-booking at authorized Citroën dealerships or online. The token amount has been set at ₹11,000, which is on par with industry practice for compact SUVs. Deliveries are expected to begin in the coming months, though the company has not shared an exact timeline yet.
New interiors teased
Pre-launch teasers show an upgraded cabin with revised trims and a more premium finish compared to the earlier Basalt models. Industry insiders expect new connectivity features, a reworked infotainment system, and safety upgrades. These teasers have been released to build anticipation before the official price reveal.
Strategy behind the Basalt X
The Basalt X is being launched as part of Citroën’s 2.0 strategy for India, which is based on customer feedback and market insights. According to Stellantis India’s business head Kumar Priyesh, this marks a new phase for the company as it aims to bring "more intuitive, comfortable and confident driving experiences” to Indian buyers.
What it means for the compact SUV segment
The Basalt already sits in one of the most competitive SUV categories in India, going up against models like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Honda Elevate. The Basalt X, with its expected tech upgrades, could help Citroën strengthen its foothold in this growing space.
For buyers, the Basalt X represents another choice in the ₹10–15 lakh (ex-showroom) segment, which has seen a flood of new launches this year. If Citroën prices it aggressively, the Basalt X could attract first-time SUV buyers who want more features without stepping into the premium bracket.
