New Delhi: BMW Group India has touched a major milestone in the electric vehicle market. The company has confirmed crossing 5,000 EV deliveries in India, making it the first luxury carmaker in the country to reach that figure. To mark the moment, BMW has launched what it calls a high-power charging corridor stretching 4,000 km from Jammu in the north to Madurai in the south.

The corridor places chargers every 300 km, reducing the range anxiety that still troubles many potential EV buyers. The company says the chargers will not be restricted to BMW customers but will be open to users of other EV brands as well.

The newly inaugurated route passes through major cities including Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune, Hubballi, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, and Madurai. The stations are powered in partnership with charging operators like Statiq and Zeon. Capacities will range from 120 kW to 720 kW, allowing drivers to make a quick stop, recharge, and continue their journeys with less waiting time.

BMW has also linked the chargers with its MyBMW app, letting customers check live charger status, filter by speed, and even see nearby amenities such as cafés or rest stops. This expansion adds to the company’s existing 300 “destination chargers” installed at hotels, malls, and resorts across the country.

EV portfolio and sales momentum

BMW’s luxury EV line-up in India includes the iX1 Long Wheelbase, i7 flagship sedan, i4, i5, and the iX SUV, along with electric scooters such as the CE 04 and CE 02. In the first half of 2025 alone, BMW sold 1,322 electric cars and scooters in India, registering a 234 per cent jump compared to the previous year. EVs now account for 18 per cent of its total sales in the country.

Among models, the iX1 Long Wheelbase has emerged as the highest-selling BMW EV, followed by the luxury-focused i7 sedan.

Industry impact

This milestone comes at a time when luxury EV sales in India are starting to pick up pace. Rivals Mercedes-Benz and Audi also have electric models on sale, but BMW has stayed ahead of the pack for the last three years.

The 5,000-unit mark may not sound huge compared to mass-market EV numbers, but for India’s luxury car market, where average prices often range from ₹50 lakh to over ₹2 crore, it is a sign that buyers are ready to move towards electric mobility, provided the ecosystem supports them.

BMW says it will continue expanding its charging network in collaboration with multiple partners, aiming to make long-distance EV driving more convenient. The company has also introduced services like Charging Concierge, which helps plan routes and manage unified payments for charging, to simplify the process for owners.
