GTA 6 set for May 2026 launch, price could hit ₹7,000 or more
Grand Theft Auto 6 is still scheduled to launch on May 26, 2026, according to Take-Two's latest earnings report. While the release date holds, the price remains a mystery. CEO Strauss Zelnick says the company will launch the game at a "premium price", sparking speculation it could cost $80–$100 (₹6,960–₹8,700) in India.
New Delhi: Rockstar Games’ long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 appears to still be on track for its scheduled launch, even as fans remain worried about possible delays. Publisher Take-Two Interactive confirmed in its Q1 2026 earnings report that the game is listed for a May 26, 2026 release. That puts it just under ten months away, and for now, there’s no official word of any slippage in the schedule.
The date matches the one Rockstar announced earlier this year in a new trailer and story reveal, which showed the game’s return to Leonida, the fictional state home to Vice City. But if history is any guide, fans know delays can happen. GTA 6 was initially planned for 2025, and Take-Two’s past earnings reports stuck to that year until the schedule changed.
GTA 6 Release date steady, but price still unknown
While the launch date has been mentioned in official filings, the price of GTA 6 remains unconfirmed. This uncertainty comes at a time when big-budget games have been pushing prices higher. Nintendo has already released $80 titles, and industry chatter suggests Take-Two could take a similar route or even higher for one of the most expensive games ever developed.
In an interview with Variety, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick did not give a clear answer on the price but hinted at the company’s strategy. "Our goal always is to deliver more value than what we charge, so we’ve had variable pricing at the company forever,” Zelnick said. "As you know, the approach of the industry is to launch at a premium price, sometimes with special editions, and over time, typically to reduce the price to enhance the overall size of the market. We do the very same thing.”
The phrase "premium price” has led many to believe GTA 6 will cost at least $80 (around ₹6,960), with some speculation it could reach $100 (about ₹8,700). Given the game’s development scale and production budget, such a move would not be surprising, though it would still be a new high for the franchise.
Fans split between optimism and doubt
For longtime GTA players, the fact that the release date is still intact is a small win, but not everyone is convinced. Take-Two previously kept to its 2025 claim right until the official delay announcement, and some community voices expect history could repeat itself.
The last GTA title, Grand Theft Auto V, also had multiple delays before its eventual launch in 2013, though it went on to become one of the best-selling games in history. Fans hope GTA 6 avoids a similar wait, especially after more than a decade since the last mainline release.
GTA 6: What we know so far
From the trailer and earlier statements, GTA 6 will return to Vice City’s neon streets, blending modern visuals with Rockstar’s signature open-world gameplay. It is expected to feature dual protagonists and an expansive map, with improved AI and more dynamic in-game systems.
But for now, two major questions remain: will May 26, 2026 actually hold, and how much will players have to pay on day one? Until Take-Two confirms the pricing, speculation will continue.
