Apple iPhone 17 lineup shares 4 big features across all models
Apple iPhone 17 lineup, including the base model, now has 256GB storage, 18MP selfie camera, anti-reflective screen, and 40W charging. Pro models still get extra features like 48MP 4x telephoto and bigger battery.
New Delhi: Apple has made a rare move with the iPhone 17 lineup this year. For once, even the entry-level model is not left behind. Usually, the base iPhone gets trimmed features, but this time Apple has packed in four upgrades across the board. From storage to charging speed, these changes impact every buyer, no matter which model they pick up.
During the Cupertino event, Apple highlighted that all iPhones now begin with 256GB storage. That means no more 128GB compromise. Along with this, the company has added a new 18MP front camera, anti-reflective coating on the display, and 40W fast charging support. These are shared features across iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max, and the new ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air.
Four upgrades now standard on every iPhone 17
Every model now gets:
- 256GB base storage
- 18MP selfie camera
- Anti-reflective display coating
- 40W fast charging
That shift in storage might not sound exciting, but for users who shoot videos or keep years of photos, it makes a big difference. The anti-reflective coating is another practical move. Screens on older iPhones often struggled under sunlight, and Apple seems to have fixed that this year.
The 18MP front camera is also a direct step-up from the 12MP standard seen for years. Apple is calling it a new "centerstage camera,” but in simple words, users can expect sharper video calls and clearer low-light shots. And of course, the 40W charging speed trims down the time iPhones usually spend plugged in.
Model-specific extras
Beyond the shared upgrades, Apple has kept some perks for higher models. The iPhone 17 gets a 120Hz LTPO display and a 48MP ultra-wide camera. The Pro and Pro Max models include a 48MP 4x telephoto lens, larger batteries, vapor chamber cooling, and aluminium frame design.
The iPhone 17 Air, which Apple CEO Tim Cook described as "more durable than any previous iPhone,” comes in at just 5.6mm thickness. Apple calls it "impossibly thin,” and this device is now the thinnest iPhone the company has ever made.
Other Apple devices
Alongside the iPhones, Apple also pulled the wraps off updates to its ecosystem. The new AirPods Pro 3 now come with a heart rate sensor and calorie tracking, pushing them deeper into the health wearable space. The Watch Series 11 includes blood pressure tracking and even hypertension detection.
These moves make Apple’s wearable category more medical in nature, though the company still presents them as consumer devices. For users who already rely on Apple Watch for fitness tracking, the new hypertension detection could be a serious addition.
Base iPhone 17 much better value this time
Apple has often been accused of keeping the base iPhone too simple, forcing users to pay extra for Pro features. This time, though, the 256GB storage bump, the new selfie camera, reflective coating, and faster charging make even the entry model stronger.
For many iPhone buyers in India, this will likely reduce the feeling of being short-changed. Whether these updates will help the iPhone 17 lineup grow beyond Apple’s premium audience in India is another debate. However, for the first time in a while, all iPhones, even the cheapest one, feel equally important in Apple’s ecosystem.
