New Delhi: With just six days to go before Apple unveils the iPhone 17 lineup on September 9, pricing chatter has once again taken over tech circles. A new report from J.P. Morgan analyst Samik Chatterjee has given a clearer picture of what buyers in the US may expect, while Indian buyers are already doing the maths in rupees.
Apple is expected to announce four models this year — the iPhone 17, the slimmer iPhone 17 Air, the iPhone 17 Pro, and the top-end iPhone 17 Pro Max. And while there are rumours of design changes and camera upgrades, the focus has shifted to whether Apple will raise prices. According to the analyst note shared with 9to5Mac, not all models will see hikes.
Here’s how the iPhone 17 series is expected to be priced in the United States:
The key change here is with the Pro model. Apple is likely scrapping the 128GB base option, meaning the iPhone 17 Pro will start with 256GB of storage. On paper, the $100 jump breaks Apple’s eight-year run of keeping the Pro at $999, but the storage bump partly explains the increase.
For Indian buyers, the iPhone price tag is always higher because of import duties and taxes. If these US estimates hold, here’s what we may see in India, based on current conversion rates (1 USD = ₹87):
The Pro Max, Apple’s most expensive model, is expected to avoid any price increase this year. That should come as a relief for buyers who don’t want their wallets stretched further.
Reports suggest that pre-orders for the iPhone 17 series will begin on September 12, just three days after the launch event. The phones will likely ship before the end of September, in line with Apple’s usual schedule. Alongside the new hardware, iOS 26 is also expected to start rolling out from September 15.
Pricing has always been a deciding factor in Apple’s India play. The standard iPhone 17 staying at $799 in the US gives some breathing room, but the Pro model creeping up shows Apple is still comfortable pushing its premium customers higher. The introduction of the new iPhone 17 Air also shifts the lineup dynamics, replacing the Plus model with a thinner, slightly more expensive device.
With launch day just around the corner, all eyes are now on Cupertino to see whether these estimates stick, and whether Apple has kept a few surprises hidden for September 9.
