Jio celebrates 500M milestone with free data, OTT bundles and home offers
Jio has crossed 500 million users as it celebrates its 9th anniversary on September 5. To mark the milestone, the telco announced unlimited free data weekend, a new ₹349 celebration plan with OTT bundles, and 1-month free for loyal users.
New Delhi: Reliance Jio is set to mark its ninth anniversary on September 5 with a big milestone and a long list of freebies. The telecom giant confirmed it has crossed 500 million users, making it the world’s largest mobile data network. To celebrate, Jio announced a year-long lineup of offers, from unlimited data weekends to monthly plans bundled with OTT subscriptions.
The announcement was made on September 3 in Mumbai, with Jio chairman Akash Ambani calling the milestone a reflection of how deeply Jio has become part of everyday life in India. "On Jio’s 9th anniversary, I feel truly humbled that more than 500 million Indians have placed their trust in us,” he said.
Unlimited data and special ₹349 plan
The biggest highlight for mobile customers is an "anniversary weekend” from September 5 to 7. During these three days, all 5G smartphone users will get unlimited 5G data at no extra cost, while 4G users can unlock unlimited data with a ₹39 add-on pack (with a 3GB per day fair usage cap).
Beyond that, Jio is offering a new ₹349 celebration plan running through the month from September 5 to October 5. It bundles:
- Unlimited 5G data for eligible users
- Jio Gold digital gold benefits
- Celebration vouchers worth ₹3,000, which include a 1-month JioHotstar subscription, JioSaavn Pro with caller tunes, Zomato Gold for three months, Netmeds First subscription, cashback on Reliance Digital, Ajio fashion discounts, EaseMyTrip travel vouchers and a two-month trial of JioHome.
Users already on long-term 2GB/day packs or below can pay ₹100 extra to unlock these add-ons. The benefits extend to postpaid customers as well.
One month free and home offers
Jio has also rolled out a year-long offer where customers completing 12 on-time monthly recharges of ₹349 will get the 13th month free.
For new JioHome subscribers, a ₹1,200 celebration plan gives a two-month connection that includes 1,000+ TV channels, 30 Mbps unlimited data, WiFi-6 router, 4K set-top box, access to 12+ OTT platforms, and bundled Amazon Prime Lite for two months.
Nine years of Jio and five big milestones
The company used the occasion to list what it considers its five big achievements so far:
- Free nationwide voice calls.
- Helping 500 million Indians use video and digital payments.
- Laying the foundation for Aadhaar, UPI and direct bank transfers.
- Supporting India’s startup ecosystem with over 100 unicorns.
- Rolling out nationwide 5G, which Jio says is the fastest in the world.
Jio called the 500-million user mark "more than the population of the US, UK and France combined.”
