Meta and Ray-Ban have officially launched their second-generation Ray-Ban Meta AI smart glasses in India, marking a significant entry into the wearable technology market. The new glasses went on sale across Ray-Ban stores and major optical retailers yesterday, with a starting price of ₹39,900.
The Gen 2 model introduces substantial upgrades, including sharper 3K ultra HD video capture and ultrawide HDR capabilities. Battery performance has been significantly enhanced, offering up to 8 hours of continuous use.
The accompanying charging case provides an additional 48 hours of power, with a rapid 20-minute charge delivering half a days worth of use. Future updates are set to include shooting modes like slow motion and hyperlapse.
The onboard Meta AI assistant has been specially enhanced for Indian users, now fully understanding and responding in Hindi. This allows wearers to take photos, issue commands, or ask questions simply by saying, "Hey Meta." A new celebrity AI voice option is also debuting, featuring Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone.
Furthermore, Meta is currently testing UPI Lite payments through the glasses, enabling instant transactions by scanning QR codes and using the "Scan and pay" command via WhatsApp-linked bank accounts.
