New Delhi: Taiwan, officially known as the Republic of China, is a country rife with geopolitical controversies. Now, on Monday, it has detected the presence of seven PLAN vessels and four sorties by PLA aircraft around its territory.
Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence (MND) itself has revealed the update. It informed that out of the four sorties, two crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's northern and southwestern ADIZ. The Ministry It took to X and posted, "4 sorties of PLA aircraft and 7 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. 2 out of 4 sorties crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s northern and southwestern ADIZ. ROC Armed Forces have monitored the situation and responded."
Notably, this is not the first update from Taiwan on this matter. The MND took to X on December 7 and posted, "2 sorties of PLA aircraft and 7 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. 1 PRC balloon was detected during this timeframe. ROC Armed Forces have monitored the situation and responded."
US President Donald Trump is set to visit China in April 2026. Recently, a phone conversation took place between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in which the latter reportedly informed the US President that Taiwan’s return to China forms an integral part of the post-war international order. The remark came amid heightened regional tensions, particularly after Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi warned of a military response should China attack Taiwan.
Japanese PM Takaichi reportedly said on November 7 that if China attacks Taiwan, it could be considered "a situation threatening Japan's survival", and the latter could resort to military action to thwart the aggression. Takaichi is possibly the first Japanese leader in decades who has openly proposed that a crisis in Taiwan could get the military of Japan involved.
