New Delhi: Accessorising your vehicle is something that a lot of people do the moment they buy a new car. The dealerships themselves provide a lot of options in terms of accessories that they will try to sell you or bundle it up in the price of the car.

Not all these accessories are useful, though, and it is a better idea to get only those ones which serve a practical purpose. Here are 5 accessories that you should avoid putting on your car when getting it from a dealership.

Adding chrome bits has always been something that dealers have banked upon. These stick-on panels are extremely expensive and they make the car look pretty tacky. Also, if not maintained correctly, these panels are not made out of the best of chrome and they get rusted out pretty easily. Manufacturers have now started to make these appliques in gloss black as well.

While graphics may look cool to some, there have been a serious lack of design and most dealer fitted graphics look pretty tacky when put onto the car. They might also not be applied properly and are mostly designed by people who don’t know what works on the vehicle so sometimes there are just random words thrown around in these graphics.

Illuminated sill plates look premium in cars which they come fitted in as standard but the add-on accessories always look like they are fitted from the outside. Many of these accessories don’t match the colour of the interior lighting as well and need wires to be cut in order to install them to the vehicle. It is much better to just get sill plates without illumination installed in your vehicle.

Many dealers will try to sell you car care products as well but they are usually made to a cost and don’t do much in terms of caring for your vehicle. It is best to avoid these items and buy things which are specifically made for the purpose. Most times, these car cleaning kits and products are general care products but it is recommended to put products which work specifically for your car.

The days of adding stick on hood scoops and vents are long gone and they do nothing to add to the practicality of the vehicle. Another new mod that people like to do is add the name of their vehicle on the bonnet like a Range Rover but it neither looks original nor does it serve any purpose so we recommend staying away from such additions which add little to no practicality to your vehicle and also make it look tacky.
