BMW launch S 1000 R in India with loads of feature and power

BMW have launched their much-awaited roadster, the S 1000 R in India, with a 999 cc engine that makes 170 bhp and 114 Nm of torque.

New Delhi: BMW Motorrad India have unveiled the BMW S 1000 R in India, after a long wait. The roadster will be available as a completely built-up unit (CBU) and can be booked through any BMW Motorrad India dealership as of today. It comes with racing credentials by just the looks of it, with the roadster proportions making it stand out.

At the launch, BMW Group India President and CEO Mr Hardeep Singh Brar said, “The new BMW S 1000 R is where dynamic roadster design meets the heart of a superbike. It is aggressive, agile, engineered for pure performance and is a machine that is as thrilling as it is to look at. With its bold aesthetics, razor-sharp precision and adrenaline-packed DNA, the ‘Single R’ is built for those who live for the rush. It is not just a motorcycle – it’s a statement.”

The BMW S 1000 R gets a split-face LED headlight with daytime riding lights and R logo, making for a standout appearance. Further, it comes with a short and quite sporty license plate holder, along with turn signals and license plate lights at the back, which are now a single unit.  The functionality of both the brake and tail lights is integrated into the turn indicator lights as well.

As for appearance, apart from the basic colour Blackstorm Metallic, the R also gets Style Sport and the M package choice as well. The Style Sport option with the Bluefire and Maugiallo Yellow paintwork only adds to the dynamic look, along with the tinted Sport windscreen. 

The exclusive M Motorsport paint finish is reserved for the M package with the base colour Light White Uni and can be combined with Light Blue, Dark Blue and Red.

BMW S 1000 R powertrain and features

In terms of powertrain, the BMW S 1000 R is fitted with an oil/water-cooled four-cylinder four-stroke in-line engine with a displacement of 999 cc. The engine makes 170 bhp and has a maximum torque of 114 Nm. All of this makes for an amazing performance with the roadster doing 0-100 kph in just 3.2 seconds, and it is electronically limited to 250 kph. The new model is 5 bhp more powerful than the previous iteration. The optional M Endurance, in fact, comes with a short secondary gear ratio that is much more effective and requires little maintenance.

The R is loaded with standard features, which include Headlight Pro with daytime riding lights, M Quick action throttle, Control (MSR),  Engine Drag Torque riding modes, which are Rain, Road, and Dynamic, including Hill Start Control. Further features include a 6.5 TFT display with connectivity, USB charging socket, a six-axis sensor box that includes things like ABS Pro and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), and Full LED lights.

The TFT display is one of the best in the segment in both display and information. The screen either displays important information or one of three Core Ride screens that display a range of other information.

Riders also have a choice of picking optional equipment, which is the  Dynamic package, the Comfort Package or the M Sport package. In the Dynamic package, the rider gets things like Dynamic Damping Control, Pro riding modes, Shift Assistant Pro, and an engine spoiler. The Comfort package offers Keyless Ride, cruise control, heated grips and tyre pressure control, while the M Sport package gets colour M package, M Sport seat, M fuel filler cap, M lightweight battery, sports silencer, M Endurance chain, M GPS- Laptrigger and even M forged wheels or M Forged wheels.
