New Delhi: Two years ago, Chevrolet ended the production of the Camaro, and there is no successor that is yet to be seen, but the Camaro will still be present in next year’s NASCAR. Chevrolet have updated their race car for the next season, adopting the styling of the recently launched Carbon Performance Package for sixth-gen Camaro ZL1 coupe owners.

The NASCAR Camaro features a bigger hood power dome, a revised grille and much more pronounced rocker panels.

The new kit available for current Camaro owners includes the ZL1 1LE grille, a new splitter with end caps, hood insert, rocker extensions and a large rear wing, all made out of carbon fibre. Chevrolet are offering the package with optional Tech Bronze wheels, and the kit is functional.

According to Chevrolet, the new kit comes with the ZL1 closer to reaching the same aerodynamic downforce as the 1LE, within 5 per cent. The upgraded aero increases the downforce by 361 per cent at 250 kph. The updated NASCAR Camaro ZL1 race car will make its racing debut in February at the Cook Out Clash at North Carolina’s Bowman Grey Stadium.

As for the seventh generation of the Camaro, there is no word yet. Some time ago, General Motors President Mark Reuss had given certain conditions required for the car to make a comeback. He felt the next Camaro needed to combine fun, functionality and beauty.

While Chevrolet does have the Corvette but it isn’t as affordable as the Camaro. However, the demand curve might not reflect the urgency of the car’s return. It is unlikely that the Camarao makes an immediate return, but a performance saloon isn’t out of the book.

There were reports in February that the plan for the car was discarded by the hierarchy due to the poor business it brought, and for now, the Camaro might be a nameplate for the brand’s race car.
