New Delhi: Honda have unveiled the N-One e, their smallest electric vehicle made for the urban population, mixing retro-inspired styling in the electric form. The kei car, unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, made its production debut in Japan with sales set to start in September 2025.

The N-One e adheres to the regulations for Japan's kei cars and measures 2.4 m in length, equipped with a single electric motor that produces up to 63 bhp. While specifications haven’t been made public yet, Honda has claimed that it achieves a WLTP range of 270 km, going past the 245 km range by the related N-Van e. The vehicle supports 50 kW DC fast charging, allowing a full charge in approximately 30 minutes due to the compact battery.

One of the standout features is the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), which gives it the capability to charge external devices and even homes for power outages with the option of a Honda Power Supply Connector. The interior prioritises simplicity and practicality, featuring physical controls, a one-pedal driving mode and a 50:50 split folding rear seat for more cargo space. There are also optional accessories like the 9-inch Honda Connect navigation system and sporty cosmetic kit with Shelby-style stripes.

It will have five colour options in Cheerful Green, Lunar Silver Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Fjord Mist Pearl and Seabed Blue Pearl. The N-One e gets a boxy high-roof design with a sleek and quite modern aesthetic. It also has Honda's Sensing safety features and Honda Connect for remote vehicle control.

Having launched in Japan, it is scheduled for a European debut at the IAA Munich auto show as well. In the Japanese market, with its efficient range, it will be a competitor to the Nissan Sakura.

Honda's EV plan for India

Honda previously had even revealed their plans to introduce electric vehicles for the Indian market, with their plans to base it on the recently launched Elevate. Honda, though, has gone back on this and is now planning to have a completely new vehicle rather than deriving from Elevate. While the details are in wraps, Honda does understand that there is a need to differentiate from the ICE cars for their EV to succeed.

In India, Honda, if they decide to launch the electric car, will have a new EV hatchback segment with the nearest competition coming from the Tata Tiago.ev. It is still a relatively unexplored market. Honda N-One e would fit perfectly in the urban space with decent range and will have a big market share to itself.
