New Delhi: Land Rover are in trouble and it is all down to a cyber attack. Tata-owned British luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover have extended their production until September 24th as it continues to deal with cybersecurity breaches disclosed at the start of this month.

According to The Economic Times report, the British brand has said the decision was made as the forensic investigation is underway and are considering a phased controlled restart to their global operations. JLR have said that they will be updating as progress is made.

The disruptions have been flowing into after-sales as well, with some repair workshops in the UK warning of delays in obtaining parts for existing Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles. The timing of the attack comes with the release of new UK registration plates on September 1st, which is usually a busy time frame for new car deliveries.

Who are behind cyber attacks on Jaguar Land Rover?

The BBC had earlier reported that the hacker group that called itself “Scattered Lapsu$ Hunter” have taken responsibility for this nuisance. The group is suspected to be a network of English-speaking teenagers and are being linked to a previous cyber attack on Marks and Spencer, and in fact had told the broadcaster that they had gained access to JLR’s network, although there was no word on whether sensitive information had been stolen or any malware had been deployed.

The group shared screenshots that appear to be showing internal troubleshooting instructions for a charging issue and even internal computer logs. Experts in the field have said that the images are suggested to contain information not meant for the public.

Back in 2023, JLR signed a five-year £800 million contract with Tata Consultancy Services to provide cybersecurity and IT support as part of their digital transformation programme. For the brand, it comes in the light of a recent report of their decline in profits owing to higher costs coming from US tariffs.
