Lamborghini is looking towards making more off-road supercars

Lamborghini is moving towards the hybrid powertrain while bringing more out-of-the-box off-roaders in their portfolio, with demands for such makeovers of their popular supercars.

New Delhi: In a distant era, Lamborghini used to be about everything that was pretty out of the box. Then Volkswagen took over the reins and delivered the Italian automaker with sense and engineering greatness. Lamborghini retains that out-of-the-box approach, but the energy feels like being transferred in proper ways.

With a record of 10,687 units delivered in 2024, Lamborghini are stronger than they have ever been. Their accounts is looking better than in years, and that has allowed the brand to experiment slightly with the niche models like the Huracan Sterrato. A follow-up that is based on the Temerario is also almost confirmed and there is more space for such projects now.

What are Lamborghini's plans for the future?

Federico Foschini, Lamborghini’s head of sales and marketing, recently told Autocar that the brand was planning to expand into even more out-there models. He hinted at a possible spicy version of Revuelto, including an off-roader version in the mould of the Sterrato. Something like the Urus had already gotten an off-roader make-up applied with the rugged ST-X, although it didn’t go to production in the end.

Although in all the ones Lamborghini have brought out, it is the Urus, with its SUV pedigree, that looks to be closest to coming as an off-roader.

Foschini mentioned that there was a big demand for projects like the Sterrato, which is the reason why Lamborghini intended to build on the success of the growing niche. The brand is trying to expand their portfolio more of course.

Apart from this, Lamborghini though haven’t forgotten a rear-wheel-drive version of the Temerario. The larger Revuelto has already trumped the Fenomeno, the brand’s fastest and most powerful vehicle ever,  in terms of sales numbers. The Urus, the brand’s best-selling vehicle, isn’t going to lose its ICE credentials yet. Lamborghini have recently noted that the second-gen will be a plug-in hybrid setup, though it was said it would be electric earlier.

The four-seater Lanzador, originally announced as an EV-only too, is going to be a PHEV most likely when it comes in 2029, a year after than it was scheduled. Hybrids might be a much different approach to how Lamborghinis used to be, but brands like them are walking towards hybrid instead of EV.
