New Delhi: Land Rover Classic has launched a remastered version of the original Defender with a V8 engine, offered across three body styles, including the 90 Station Wagon, 110 Station Wagon and the 90 Soft Top. These vehicles are built under the company’s Works Bespoke programme, which focuses on restoring and upgrading older Land Rover models to modern standards.
Land Rover Classic is a dedicated division within JLR that looks after the brand’s older vehicles. It not only maintains classic Land Rovers but also rebuilds selected models for resale through its Approved Vehicle programme. For this Defender V8 range, customers also get the option to match exterior colours and interior finishes with the modern Defender Octa.
The remastered Defender V8 is now available in five new exterior colours: Petra Copper, Faroe Green, Sargasso Blue, Narvik Black and Patagonia White. These are in addition to existing shades such as Borasco Grey, Carpathian Grey and Charente Grey. Buyers can choose between gloss and satin paint finishes, with the satin option designed to look similar to the matte protective film offered on the Defender Octa.
Inside the cabin, Land Rover Classic has added a new lightweight PU-based material called Ultrafabrics. It is offered in Khaki Green, Light Cloud and Lunar. Traditional leather upholstery is still available, including Burnt Sienna semi-aniline and Ebony finishes. Heated Recaro sports seats can also be added as an option.
Each Classic Defender V8 starts life as a vehicle sourced from the 2012 to 2016 production period. These are taken to Land Rover Classic’s Coventry facility, where they are completely stripped and rebuilt. Power comes from a 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine producing 400hp, paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox.
The suspension setup includes custom springs, dampers and anti-roll bars, while braking is handled by 335mm discs at the front and 300mm discs at the rear, both with four-piston calipers. Each vehicle spends around 300 hours in the paint shop alone, covering preparation, colour matching and final polishing.
Further custom options include a gloss black grille, carbon fibre bonnet script and a choice of five wheel designs in 11 finishes, available in 16-inch and 18-inch sizes. All vehicles come with a one-year unlimited mileage warranty.
