Lexus LFA return after 13 years with electric powertrain

Lexus has brought back the iconic LFA name after more than a decade, but only as an electric concept. The new LFA Concept is larger, more refined and focused on future tech, though key performance details remain undisclosed. Its clean, driver-centred cabin and sharp exterior hint at what a future production model may look like.

New Delhi: The Lexus LFA was once considered as a favourite or popular car and unlike anything Lexus made before. It was sold only from 2010 to 2012, and just 500 cars were ever built. After production ended, fans kept asking Lexus to bring the LFA back. Now, after more than a decade, Lexus has shown a new LFA Concept. This is the first time the LFA name has been used since 2012. But it is still only a concept car, not something ready for production.

The biggest surprise, and for many people a disappointment, is the powertrain. There is no petrol engine this time. The new LFA Concept is a fully electric car. Lexus has not shared any details about its motor, battery size, range, or performance. They simply say that the LFA name is not limited to petrol engines anymore. According to the company, the badge represents advanced technology that engineers want to carry forward for future generations.

In terms of design, the new LFA looks very similar to the Sport Concept that was shown earlier this year at Monterey. Most of the body panels are the same, with just a few subtle adjustments to make it appear closer to a final model. However, the new LFA is larger than the old one. It measures 185.6 inches (4,690 mm) in length and 80.3 inches (2,040 mm) in width, with a wheelbase of 107.3 inches (2,725 mm). Compared to the original LFA, this concept is about 10 inches longer and over six inches wider, making it a noticeably bigger car overall.

Inside, the cabin follows a very simple and clean layout, cockpit like design. Everything is focused around the driver. Lexus says the design aims to create excitement as soon as you sit down. The steering wheel has been shaped for easy control, allowing the driver to steer without constantly adjusting hand positions. The switches are placed so they can be used by feel, without looking away from the road. The whole interior mixes mechanical-looking parts with a minimalistic style to create a focused driving environment.
