Lexus tease supercar before impending debut; shares Toyota sports car platform
Lexus will be sharing the 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbocharger with the Toyota GR GT, and joining the two cars will be a completely track-focused car. The three cars will be making their global debut on December 5th.
New Delhi: Toyota has been making some big strides as the brand is close to unveiling their next supercar soon. However, that is not the end of the story as the GR GT will be sharing the stage with a Lexus-badged model, and if that wasn’t all, there will be a track-only machine as well.
A new teaser shows them putting the road-going Toyota front and centre. It might not actually come with a Toyota badge, as they recently noted that they want to have the Gazoo Racing as a separate entity altogether. In the teaser photo, there are three cars shown. The interesting one is the swoopy coupe that likely will come with the Lexus badge. The taillight matches that of the Sport Concept.
What powertrain can be expected?
Both the GR and the Lexus sibling are expected to share a previously announced V8. The newly made petrol is a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharger. While there are expectations for some type of electrification but it might not be a plug-in-hybrid. The Sport Concept mentioned was a hybrid for the record.
The one on the right it will reportedly coming with track tyres and will even have a roll cage. With the louvres in the front fenders, it stands apart from the street-legal models. It will also be getting plexiglass windows and flush door handles to make it aerodynamically more efficient.
The three cars are close to being unveiled to the world on December 5th. While the details remain limited from the silhouette, it is clear that Toyota are doubling the ICE version sports cars despite the world slowly moving towards electrification. A big reason for this is that electric hypercars are not catching up as one might have hoped.
