New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki has rolled out something different this time, the Grand Vitara Phantom Blaq Edition, the company’s first SUV to get a factory-finished matte black paint. The launch also marks a decade of its Nexa retail brand, and it’s clear this one is aimed squarely at those who like their cars to stand out. Prices haven’t been announced yet, but it is expected to sit above the Strong Hybrid Alpha+ variant, which currently starts at ₹19.92 lakh (ex-showroom).
For anyone who has seen the standard Grand Vitara on the road, this edition is a complete visual shift. The usual chrome and bright accents are gone, replaced by an aggressive all-black theme from nose to tail. Even the roof rails are blacked out, making the whole SUV look more stealthy than flashy.
The Phantom Blaq Edition is the first time Maruti Suzuki has offered matte black paint straight from the factory. This finish covers the body while gloss black elements are used for the grille, alloy wheels, and trims. The absence of chrome gives the SUV a cleaner, meaner look.
Car spotters will notice how the light plays differently on matte black compared to regular paint. It doesn’t reflect much, giving the car a planted, almost concept-car feel. It is a look many enthusiasts usually get done aftermarket, but here it is available right off the showroom floor.
Step inside and the dark theme continues. The cabin retains the layout of the top Alpha+ variant but now gets perforated faux leather upholstery and subtle champagne gold accents. The features list is identical to the standard Alpha+ Strong Hybrid, which means you get:
Under the bonnet, there are no mechanical changes. The Phantom Blaq Edition comes only in the Strong Hybrid Alpha+ configuration. It pairs a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine (M15D-FXE) with an electric motor and a 0.76kWh lithium-ion battery.
Combined output is 115 bhp and 141 Nm, sent to the wheels through an e-CVT transmission. Maruti Suzuki claims a fuel efficiency of 27.97 km/l, which is one of the highest in its segment.
While the price remains under wraps, it is expected to carry a small premium over the regular Strong Hybrid Alpha+. Being a special edition with a factory matte finish, it is likely to be in limited supply.
