Maruti Suzuki confirm e-Vitara launch in India in December
Maruti Suzuki are bringing the much-awaited e-Vitara in India in December, and the brand is going to face serious competition from the likes of Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta EV and Mahindra BE 6.
New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki will be launching the e-Vitara in December, as confirmed by the company’s MD and CEO, Hisashi Takeuchi, on Friday at a press conference regarding their financial result for the first half of the current fiscal year (H1 FY2026). The Maruti e-Vitara has been anticipated for a long time in the Indian market, with the price announcement being expected earlier this year.
However, this has been delayed due to the battery supply and software challenges. The midsize SUV is the Japanese carmaker’s first venture in the EV market across the world and is being manufactured exclusively at the Hansalput factory in Gujarat. Around 7,000 units of the e-Vitara have been shipped overseas since exports started in August, with the United Kingdom being the big importer.
Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara battery specs
For the international market, Suzuki are offering the e-Vitara with two battery options, the 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The batteries power an electric motor at the front, and a larger unit can also be chosen with a dual-motor setup enabling AWD, which Suzuki calls the AllGrip-e.
The e-Vitara FWD produces 144bhp from the 49 kWh battery and 174 bhp with the 61 kWh battery. The range-topping AWD version comes with an electric motor on the rear axle, having a combined output of 184 bhp.
On the WLTP cycle, the e-Vitara 61kWh FWD has the highest range of 428 km, with the AWD making a figure of 394 km. The base-level 49 kWh FWD version makes around 344 km of range. The FWD e-Vitara will come to India with the larger battery pack first, making 500 km of ARAI range, and the twin-motor version is likely to follow soon.
The e-Vitara pricing hasn’t been revealed yet, but it is expected to find competition from the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta EV, MG ZS EV, and Mahindra BE 6. This is a crowded segment, and Maruti, being the late entrant, will face some serious competition.
