New Delhi: Lexus used to have an advert that said, "Lexus, it changes everything." and now that is what they have done with themselves. Toyota's sub-brand have debuted a pair of concepts at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, giving a preview of the reinvention of the brand’s former flagship sedan nameplate, the LS (Luxury Sedan). Now, though, it is being seen as “Luxury Space” that spans across different body styles.

The first of these is the Lexus LS Concept, which is an outlandish six-wheeled luxury MPV, and the other is LS Coupe Concept, which comes as a coupe-SUV form. Lexus has hinted that this could be the direction that the brand is slowly heading towards for a while now.

Of the two concepts, it is the Lexus LS Concept that appears rather too out there, and at first glance, it almost looks a bit like a small cruiser. With its six-wheel setup, it is the first MPV with three axles. Lexus noted that they opted for the six wheels in order to “revolutionise” the whole look of the LS without giving many details. However, the brand is confident this is going to be closer to the production version.

At the front, the LS Concept comes with an LED light bar that extends into the bumper, converging with a different set of L-shaped LEDs in order to form a triangular shape. There’s another vertical LED strip in the bumper, and the ‘LEXUS’ lettering at the top is illuminated as well. The windshield slopes down right into the upper edge of the front fascia. Per se, there is no bonnet in the front and on the outside, there are no rearview mirrors as well.

On the side, the LS Concept comes with deep dish front wheels with illuminated centres, and the sliding rear doors get slatted windows for privacy. The four rear wheels are much smaller than those at the front but come with the same illumination.

The dashboard of the LS Concept’s boxy proportions makes for immense space inside. The dashboard layout is very minimal with three screens surrounding the yoke steering wheel, along with five smaller displays for vehicle controls on the centre console. There is also another wide display further out on the dashboard that mixes ORVM and IRVM camera views.

As for the seats, the LS Concept have three rows but only six headrests have been given, with the middle bench being reclinable and the third row comes with loads of legroom. It also has dual panoramic glass roofs that sit right above the occupants, and the entire cabin is filled with premium materials, including wood and bamboo.

The LS Coupe Concept comes with a much more conventional body style, but it is much more impressive. It has an LED setup that are in Greek Sigma shape at the front with air intakes at the bottom of the bumper and a huge duct on the bonnet to guide airflow over the roof.

Even the side gets more intakes and ducts with gloss-black body cladding. It is crowded with ORVM camera units and a sleek blacked-out roofline, featuring bronze trim. The roofline doesn’t extend as far as the tailgater’s upper edge. The back comes with a rectangular LED setup with 3D ‘LEXUS’ lettering and a big 2-fin diffuser below.

On the inside, the LS Coupe Concept gets three screens as well, with two being layered behind the yoke steering wheel, handling instrumentation and outside camera views, and the third one comes with a passenger display. There is also a screen above passengers that controls the HVAC system and runs into the panoramic glass roof.

The LS Coupe gets a unique boot that is in the centre of the tailgate, and the panel slides down, and a cargo floor automatically extends outwards like a deck.

Both of the cars are likely to be EVs and though the brand is still not giving any confirmation for sure.
