Maserati unveils MC20 Cielo “Opera d’Arte” during Milano AutoClassica
Maserati have brought a one-off MC20 Cielo "Opera d'Arte" at the three-day event Milano AutoClassica, with outrageous hand-painted design brought by the brand's Fuoriserie programme.
New Delhi: Maserati have unveiled the one-off MC20 Cielo "Opera d’Arte” during the Milano AutoClassica, which happened on November 21st at Fiera Milano (Rho). The hand-painted special, made through the brand’s Fuoriserie programme, was the headliner of this year’s classic-car event, which happens for three days.
While the MC20 lineup have seen several evolutions, which include the more extreme MCPURA version shown during the Goodwood this year, the "Opera d’Arte” is a step further. Maserati haven’t made it faster or sharper with dynamics; Maserati’s Fuoriserie division instead experimented with artistic impressions.
While it does take on other design-led specials, the model is unique in terms of the intensity of the concept and the amount of craftsmanship manually applied.
Maserati’s one-off creation
Maserati’s design, engineering and Fuoriserie teams spent a year making the "Opera d’Arte”. The entire exterior was painted by hand, with abstract patterns taking cues from early modern art. Every stroke and colour placement has been placed deliberately, making the MC20 Cielo an artwork instead of just a special edition.
There are 15 custom-made colours which include neon-like yellow, rich orange and even punchy greens. These tones shift from one panel to the other, making a mix of contrasts and transitions. The wheels also come with their own graphic touches to make it feel more tied together.
On the inside, it is this same artwork that carries on. The lower dashboard comes with hand-applied accents, with the seats coming with laser-engraved Alcantara. Carbon-fibre inserts and leather finishes are perfectly balanced with expressive elements.
With the debut of "Opera d’Arte”, there’s also a spotlight on the Maserati and Alfa Romeo’s new joint venture under the banner of "BOTTEGAFUUPRISERIE”. The project brings together the craftsmanship centre, design studios, restoration specialists and performance developers across Italy’s "Motor Valley”. More recently, Maserati have been bringing together a series of specials, and this stands out as there hasn’t been any tweaking with the power.
