New Delhi: The automotive conglomerate with 14 car brands, Stellantis, haven’t had the best of the first half of the year. Stellantis have reported a net loss of € 2.3 billion, with the net revenue going down to 13 per cent in comparison with H1 2024. Further, their main target points also had low sales. Tariffs have impacted too, and in North America shipments have dropped by 23 per cent.
Due to a slow rollout of new B-segment models, even deliveries in Enlarged Europe saw a decline by seven per cent. Stellantis has also faced setbacks in the Asia Pacific region, China and India, though they managed to balance out the loss with a 20 per cent increase in sales in South America. Further, the company recorded a five per cent in the Middle East and Africa region. Overall, they shipped 2.69 million vehicles globally, which is an eight per cent fall from the same period in 2024.
The new CEO, Antonio Filosa, has said that in order to bring Stellantis back on course, they will have to make some significant changes. He felt that while remaining realistic about the challenges, the new leadership would need to take tough calls to make them a profitable brand and improve the result by a huge margin.
Filosa, though, remains confident about turning things around for Stellantis with the team he has in his hands, though he admitted that this had been a difficult year for them. While the changes haven’t been disclosed yet, Stellantis have put rumours to rest that Maserati might be sold. They have persisted with retaining the Italian brand despite the slump in sales.
Maserati saw sales go down in 2024, seeing the Italian marque brand selling just 11,300 as opposed to 26,600 units in 2023, and until June, Maserati have only sold 4,200, which is again 25 per cent down from H1 of 2024.
There is another side, with Stellantis reporting 2,00,000 orders for the Avenger in just two years of it going on sale. They are also planning to have several new models of Jeep Compass, Citroen C5 Aircross and a fuel-powered Fiat 500. They will also have Jeep Cherokee, Dodge Charger and even a 5.7-litre HEMI V8-powered Ram 1500 in the United States.
Stellantis are slashing costs with their abandonment of the fuel cell hydrogen program and through “product program cancellation” as well. Even Lancia’s relaunch isn’t going to plan with the shipments in the EU, EFTA and UK falling by 73.8 per cent through June. While there are quite a few brands on the decline, Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, and Jeep are showing some decent upward trend.
