New Delhi: Tata Motors have crossed a major milestone in their EV portfolio, as they announced that 2.5 lakh Tata.ev vehicles are on Indian roads. This highlights the steady rise of electric passenger vehicles in the country and reinforces Tata Motors’ position as a frontrunner in the mass adoption of EVs. The Nexon.ev, in particular, has made the biggest impact for the brand as it becomes the first India EV to cross the 1 lakh mark.

It had been a niche segment at some point of time back but it is now slowly becoming a very mainstream segment. Since launching the Nexon.ev in 2020, the brand’s electric portfolio has gained consistent traction in both urban and rural markets.

Speaking on the milestone, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., noted that the figure reflects how electric mobility is increasingly becoming engraved in the Indian lifestyle. He also pointed out that customers are now driving EVs over longer distances and relying on them as main household vehicles, and not just an optional urban runabout and joy ride.

Chandra further added that Tata’s EV journey, which began in 2018, has not just been about selling cars but on building a wider ecosystem to support India’s transition to cleaner mobility.

Tata Motors have been strengthening their EV portfolio through regular product updates. With the recent one being the expansion of the Nexon.ev range with the introduction of ADAS-equipped trims, priced from Rs 17.29 lakh (ex-showroom). Advanced driver assistance systems have been introduced on the Nexon.ev 45, making the safety standards higher and also making them more premium.

Alongside ADAS, Tata have added features like ambient lighting and a rear window sunshade for cabin comfort and perceived value. The launch of the Nexon.ev Dark edition further builds on the model’s appeal, offering a more distinctive and exclusive visual identity. Tata Motors have also been investing heavily in the whole localisation and India-first technologies.
