New Delhi: KTM have announced a global recall for their 390 Adventure X, Adventure R, Enduro R and SMC-R. It is related to the side-stand issue that leads to the bike stalling or not starting up at all. While the recall only affects models that are sold in the USA, Canada and other such regions that get the forged side stand and the Indian models are not affected by this.
On affected vehicles, KTM have said that the quality of inspections have determined that the engine vibrations might cause the side-stand spring to break on the 390 Adventure X, 390 Adventure R, 390 Enduro R and 390 SMC-R. This issue affects just the international models that come with a forged-side stand and does not affect the Indian models that come with a fabricated side stand.
Even in global markets, KTM maintains that the number of reported cases is very small. The brand said they have already identified the root cause and are monitoring the situation closely.
For the vehicles affected, KTM have said that the customers need to head to their closest service station and have their side stand spring replaced and a rubber protection fitted. Adding to that, the brand will also install a new side stand sensor for the plate on a few particular vehicles that adjusts the trigger range of the side switch. KTM also said that the side stand springs on Indian models were actively upgraded earlier this year.
