New Tata Sierra launched in India: Full specs, price and booking dates out

Tata Motors has finally brought back the Sierra nameplate, and honestly, it felt a bit unreal watching the specs sheet drop early morning. The SUV arrives with an introductory ex showroom price of Rs 11.49 lakh, which instantly places it inside a very crowded mid size space. Bookings open on December 16 and deliveries start from January 15. I have been covering launches for years, and this one really feels like Tata wanted to bring a slice of nostalgia without making it look old.

The modern interpretation is quite clear. The carved rear window, the clean panels, and the slim LED headlamps form a nice reminder of the original three door Sierra many of us only saw in grainy photos growing up. The team at Tata had said in a presentation that the brief was to not think of the cabin as a regular car interior but something like a living room. 

The Sierra comes in four trims and seven variants. Six exterior colours are on offer, including green grey, yellow, red, silver grey, a darker grey and white. The styling uses a high bonnet, a single piece DRL, flush handles and a clamshell tailgate. These elements helped the SUV win the Red Dot Design Award in 2025.

Underneath, the new Sierra uses an all new architecture called ARGOS. It is not the ATLAS platform used on the Curvv. The platform supports 4WD, although the Sierra starts with only FWD. Tata claims the approach, breakover and departure angles are similar to SUVs that sit two segments above. Water fording ability is 450 mm, which should handle most messy monsoon situations in many Indian cities.

All automatic units here are torque converters, except the NA petrol which gets a dual clutch.

Inside, the cabin uses a horizontal layout with neutral colours and metallic trim. The PanoraMax sunroof measures 1525 mm by 925 mm and covers a large part of the roof. Rear seat space feels generous with strong headroom and legroom. Boot capacity is 622 litres.

The triple screen setup, called TheatrePro, spreads across the dashboard with two 12.3 inch touchscreens and a 10.25 inch instrument display. Other features include dual zone climate control, ventilated seats, a 12 speaker JBL audio setup with Dolby Atmos, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360 degree camera, HUD and connected features. The powered hatch lid and puddle lamps are small touches that many owners will appreciate.

Tata has added Level 2 ADAS with vehicle to vehicle collision mitigation and dual blindspot monitors. Standard safety kit includes multiple airbags, ESC, ABS and EBD.

The mid size SUV category is already crowded, but the Sierra tries to make room with a wide feature list, three engine choices and a design that stands out on the road. I can already imagine the yellow shade becoming common on social media once deliveries start. Tata’s decision to offer both manual and automatic choices on petrol and diesel will attract a wide set of buyers.
