New Delhi: Veteran actor Dharmendra passed away aged 89 in Mumbai today, leaving behind a big legacy of iconic films. Known as the ‘He-Man’ of the Indian cinema, Dharmendra gave hits like ‘Sholay’, ‘Chupke Chupke’, ‘Anupama’ and ‘Blackmail’. The news has shocked his fans as well as the film fraternity.
With his larger-than-life image came exquisite car collections as well. A beloved actor, his car collection had the choicest vintage and luxury cars. While his car collection had a humble start, his garage through the years rolled in the modern luxuries as well. His choice of machines reflected elegance and old-school styling.
Dharmendra’s car collection started with the iconic Fiat 1100, which he once even showed in an Instagram video. Back in the early 1960s, when Dharmendra was still struggling to make a name in the film industry, he bought the Fiat 1100 with Rs 18,000. He confessed that, coming in an era full of talent, he was afraid of being replaced easily and hence kept the car as a backup for him to use as a taxi. While it never happened, Dharmendra kept the car in his garage, showing the bond people share with cars.
Dharmendra was known for being of the luxury brand Range Rover. His collection included quite a few generations. He was spotted quite a few times using the generation of the model quite a few times. A capable off-roader with a premium interior, the Land Rover Range Rover suited his personality of being tough.
The Mercedes-Benz SL500 was one of the classic grand-tourers that came with a powerful V8 that made for amazing performance. It had amazing ride quality and styling that has transcended through the years. The first generation ran in production from 1989 to 2001.
A patriot of SUVs, Dharmendra has been associated with the Porsche Cayenne, with his family members also being spotted with it. The Cayenne comes with a sporty performance whilst maintaining the SUV practicality, which has made it the top choice for many.
Many media outlets have noted that Dharmendra owned a Mercedes S-Class as part of the family car. The S-Class is often regarded as one of the best luxury cars ever made. It had amazing ride quality and was often the benchmark in terms of technology and luxury.
