New Delhi: American electric vehicle brand Tesla are planning to expand their supercharging network in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Bangalore as they plan to start deliveries in September. During the company’s second experience centre launch in India at Aerocity Delhi, Tesla’s Regional Director South East Asia, Isabel Fan, said that they were planning to open supercharging stations in Gurugram and Noida, along with one more in Saket.
The company launched itself into the Indian market last month after opening their first experience centre in Mumbai and introduced Model Y with a starting price at Rs 59.89 lakh. The brand noted that the Rear-Wheel-Drive Model will start deliveries in September, while they expect the same for the long-range RWD in Q4 of this year.
In Mumbai, the company is planning to set up supercharging stations at Lower Parel, Thane, and Navi Mumbai, having opened the Bandra Kurla Complex station earlier in the month.
Fan noted that they were looking to expand further in India, and Bangalore was certainly on their radar. Further, they also had plans to launch a mobile service, remote diagnostics, a service centre and a Tesla Approved collision centre soon. Fan said that the company wouldn’t be committing unless they could deliver.
Tesla’s stations will have both superchargers and destination chargers suiting the requirements of the customer. Customers will be able to charge cars up to 267 km in 15 minutes, and these stations are “Designed, deployed and operated” by Tesla.
More or less, Tesla is trying to deliver the best experience to its Indian customers and pre-plan every escalation that could come their way. Having initially limited their operating regions, the company has now opened their doors pan-India for potential customers to book from across the country. As a market, Tesla views India as having potential and hence they are making everything for long-term.
